At the age of 26 I had a sever back injury. While I was laying flat on my back for 5 months I came across painting demonstrations on PBS. Previously, I had no interest in art, whatsoever. Six months later I started selling paintings. Two years later I started selling at juried art shows.
I have won awards with both landscape and abstract paintings. My abstract painting,"You're Outta here" hangs in the permanent collection of the National Sports Museum of Art in Indianapolis,Indiana.
I am a professional full time artist,I have been painting for 26 years now. I do some of the top juried art show in the country, see a partial list below. I do around 20 shows a year in 12 different states.
I have taught art classes and I spoken in schools about the business of art. I have been interviewed on television numerous times. have given painting demonstrations in front of thousands of people.
I have been married to the same beautiful woman for 28 years. Stacy and I have two sons, Ryan and Tyler. We will be empty nesters in the not so distant future.
I have a working studio gallery that I built behind our home in Memphis,Indiana just outside of Louisville,Kentucky.
I paint very freely even when painting landscapes, the more I try to plan the harder it is to paint. I start with just a vague idea and even then what started as an abstract may turn into a landscape or vise versa. I use heavy bodied acrylic, mostly pallette knife work and build it up in layers. My acrylic generally have a lot of texture. I place complementary colors on top of or near each other to make the colors pop. Sometime you will see a color in an unexpected place. The method leaves my paintings open to some interpetation. For expmple, in my simple horizon series, most people see them as water reflection or marsh, others see them as landscape. Please don't hesitate to ask questions.
